In short, calls for greater value, building collective knowledge and best return on investment.

The main goal of an information technology plan for distance learning is to employ cost effective electronic and computing tools to summarily deliver education contents through distance learning medium. This medium of delivery today, rides on the integrating computing, communications and telecommunication technologies, which is widely employed by both conventional and distance learning institutions around the globe to deliver the pedagogic process. It therefore becomes essential for distance learning institution to evolve an it plan for the implementation of a cost effective and efficient medium of delivering her academic contents.

This medium today which can be termed as distance learning technologies has tools that it employed to deliver education effectively with optimal beneficial results that rival the conventional educational system. The trends in communication and information technology are changing the way people around the world work, play and learn. The educational concept is evolving to a combination of synchronous, interactive learning and asynchronous, online instruction. Prevalent today is just-in-time learning and on-demand teaching which are fast replacing orthodox short-term courses and diplomas.

Integrating technologies of computing and telecommunication has enhanced the pedagogy process in this age with major educational systems round the world taking the advantage. It is a common infrastructure now for the 21st century school to have a networked multimedia environment to effect the optimum execution of the school curriculum and also prepare both the students and teachers for trends, changes and challenges of this information age.

Practically, from records and researches into it plans of last two decades (the mid 80s to the millennium), evolving rolling plans are consistently observed and reviewed to accommodate changes in the ambit of standardisation, upgradeability, compatibility and operate ability both cost effective synchronous and asynchronous systems of delivering education contents. Hence the ICT department is always faced a dynamic and rolling plan that will consistently and integrated rolled into the overall goal of the distance learning institution which is to provide and deliver quality education contents removing the distance barrier.

The planning process involves a conducted wide systems analysis and consultation with the various units on their operations in order to have a system design for the distance learning institution. Events such as admission and registration exercises that involve collation of forms, processing and the collaborations that evolved from such exercises will give the it department the necessary logic and defined procedures to adopt. This exercise will help in forging the admission and registration system which normally will be designed into a web portal.

Existing university with online operations or what is refer to a dual mode university (face to face and distance learning students – online students) normally has the it plan of the distance learning centre rolled into the overall ict plan of the university.

Today distance education is gaining huge momentum among students and working professionals. Distance education is an effective way of implementing education to students living in distant remote areas. Here, you need not have to visit any college or attend regular classes; education is imparted by correspondence and communication between institute and candidate. It is very cost effective process of getting education and you can study at your own pace. You are aware of the fact that to study in UK or USA is an expensive affair. From education to accommodation everything cost very hefty on your budget. Therefore, those who are not able to afford the expense or have other priorities in life can choose Distance education.

Today Distance education offers a dozens of educational courses and programs to the education seekers. You could find varieties of subjects to choose as per your need and requirements. Distance education suits those candidates very well who want flexibility in their schedule. Many working individuals opt for Distance education due to their hectic lifestyle. It is very hard for them to attend any institute besides working. Hence, they prefer Distance education over regular studies. Distance education has gone through lot of transformations over the years. Previously Distance education was done through mails but with the advancement of time now you study these programs online. Now you can view your assignment online and through online communication you can receive audios and videos files of your course.

Distance learning is not only apt for working professionals but also for the candidates who want to study part time. Distance education offers education for universities level. There are some people who become hesitant and shy when they are in a large group of people. Their anxiety and lack of confidence make them meek. Thus, for such individuals as well Distance learning is a great tool of learning education. In addition to this, physically challenged people can also benefit from Distance learning.

It is found that the students who drop their studies due to reasons like- economic conditions, personal issues and inability, poverty etc. often enroll for distant education to complete their studies and get an academic degree. Since you do not have to commute from one place to another; Distance education saves a lot of your precious time and effort. You get all your study material and notes at the comfort of your house. You are not forced to finish your program in short span of 1 or 2 year like in Universities. You get enough time to finish your studies from five to eight years.

However, like everything Distance education has its own shortcomings or demerits. Distance education is not favorable for those individuals who require special attention of the tutors. Studying online deprive them the direct touch and supervision of teacher and they are entirely by themselves. Students who have a frail grasping and understanding power often face difficulties completing their assignments. Therefore, distant education is not suitable for them.

Another demerit of distant learning is for those students who are not good friendly with Computers and Internet. In most of the Distance learning programs you only get e-mail address of the online tutor. People who are not proficient in Internet are not able to learn anything online and consequently their distant education program fails.

Non existent of interaction is another shortcoming of distant education. You have no communication with the students of the course which leaves no chance of exchanging views and making new friends. A good communication among students is an important part of personality development and improvement of skills.

Therefore, to complete your distant education fruitfully you should properly divide appropriate hours to studies and other important things. Keep a regular touch with your online tutor through e-mails and other communication sources. A hardworking and dedicated student would never fail in achieving his dreams and career.

Today’s strong demand for simple authoring tools is due to the popularity of web-based learning. Learning using the internet as the platform enables teachers to reach more students even outside their own country. Educators wanting to move their traditional courses to elearning online are stomped most of the time from lack of technical know-how or internet savvy. Fortunately, software applications especially designed for educators are easy to use and efficient in translating traditional courses to e-courses.

PowerPoint is the best known authoring tool a teacher uses. The interface is user friendly but the animation and other features are limited. An educator would be hard-pressed to find tools for creating interactive game activities in PowerPoint’s menu. For a classroom setting, a PowerPoint presentation is enough to complement the speaker’s lecture but for an ecourse, where most of the time, all the distance learning student can see is the screen itself, more specialized software is needed.

In determining which authoring tools to use, an educator has to consider:

Connectivity
For web-based elearning websites, educators have to consider if the application would load correctly even if the broadband connection is inconsistent. For example, distance learning for developing countries with little access to broadband connection, it would be quite hard to teach students when the lecture is often interrupted by buffering videos. It may be necessary to limit media to make sure the student downloaded the page successfully.

File Format
Uploading data on the internet or a Learning Management System needs compatibility with both the site and the content. For interactive games, flash is the standard or most widely used but not it is facing competition with HTML 5.

Games and Learning Activities
For young students especially, games are important tools for learning as they are fun and can transform boring lectures into exciting learning activities. Virtual learning environments like the Second Life Elearning project can also be applied when learning new skills. Included in this area are role playing and simulations. When considering software, be aware of who would be using it and how the software features apply to teaching your learners.

User-friendly Animations
PowerPoint animations were created to project a more dynamic look to an otherwise boring text. Specialized authoring tools must have their own set of animation templates that are ready to use and easy to apply.

Storage
Cloud based authoring tools is an important innovation just lately being realized. With a cloud as the server, students will be able to access the website or learning portal where your ecourse can be found in any computer. Since no installation is required, there is easy implementation and there is no need to worry when technical difficulties are experienced since that will be the cloud server’s responsibility.

There are a lot of authoring tools to choose from but some of the recommended are: Captive and Presenter from Adobe. Captive includes animations, quizzes, presentations, etc. that are fully customizable.

ProForm by Rapid Intake includes screen cap and Rapidcam video recording among other innovations. Animations can be converted to Flash movies to be uploaded on the internet for elearning online interactive games.

A computer graduate and loves to travel. Reading current news in the internet is one of his past times. Taking pictures of the things around him fully satisfies him. He loves to play badminton and his favorite pets are cats and walk with them in the park with some dogs.

Choosing a distance learning school is an important decision for your career and your life in general, since you really need an advanced degree to get ahead in most jobs. Completing college is a vital step for building self-confidence and personal fulfillment. Perhaps you’re choosing a distance learning school to change careers altogether while still working in your current job until you have the degree that will enable you to apply for your dream job. In any case, choosing the right online distance learning school will determine whether you have an enriching experience and will establish how useful the degree is for your goals.

There are, unfortunately, some online distance learning schools that are not as reputable as others, so it’s important to weed out the schools that are not accredited before applying to any of them. Any school you apply to should be accredited by a reputable external agency. Otherwise, your degree may be nothing more than a piece of paper that employers will not take seriously. Once you have a list of schools that are accredited, then you can determine which ones offer the programs that suit your needs.

When choosing a distance learning school, it is important to find one that specializes in the subject areas you are interested in and that offers the degrees that will coincide with your goals. You will need to figure out whether a two-year associate’s degree, four-year bachelor’s degree, or five-to-six-year master’s degree will suit your needs. Some schools are also more knowledgeable in certain subject areas than others. They may specialize in health care, business, professional arts or all of the above. As long as the specific program you’re entering has a good reputation at that school it should be a good choice, whether it’s an education degree, a business management degree, a hospitality degree or anything else.

The final steps in choosing a distance learning school involve the cost, the financial aid options, the convenience of the coursework and scheduling, and the tools that are available to communicate with instructors and peers. When you find a school that meets your needs, you are well on your way to achieving your goals.

Find top distance learning universities and top online degree programs at DistanceLearningu.com. Choose the best online degree program for you and start your path to a rewarding career.

Online college courses require commitment and self discipline-traits that many members of the military already hold. And the flexibility that’s inherent with on-line degree programs can prove a welcome constant for soldiers deployed into service or transferred to another base. Continuing education during off-duty time is voluntary and is often free, and experts say there are several benefits to it.

“Voluntary education programs help members improve their mission performance, prepare members for greater responsibility and enhance their professional, as well as their personal, potential,” Education Technician Lori Popp of the Lifelong Learning section of Marine and Family Services aboard North Carolina’s Camp Lejeune told the Jacksonville Daily News in July 2009.

The Servicemen’s Readjustment Act, also known as the GI Bill, was signed in to law in 1944 in part as a means of offering college scholarships to anyone who served in uniform. By 1947, veterans accounted for nearly half of all college students in the United States, according to a Time Magazine article. A Post 9/11 GI Bill has since made as much as 100 percent tuition available to service members on active duty after Sept. 10, 2001. The Post 9/11 Bill covers graduate and undergraduate degrees as well as vocational or technical training provided by approved institutions and provides stipends for books and housing.

Members of the military can gain academic credit for military training and experience. The U.S. Army reportedly partners with more than 1,900 community colleges and universities that accept military training credits from soldiers pursuing a college education during or after service. Many bases are said to feature satellite branches of local, accredited universities and, for many members of the military, online college offerings might be the only option.

Online classes involve obtaining 80 to 100 percent of a course’s content online, according to the Sloan Consortium, and distance education typically attract students who otherwise might not be able to attend classes at a traditional campus. Lori Popp told the Jacksonville Daily News that technological advances in distance education now make it easier for deployed service members to continue their education. The consortium, comprised of organizations and institutions committed to quality online education, recently released the results of a study entitled “Learning on Demand: Online Education in the United States.” Between the falls of 2007 and 2008, the study noted, the number of online students increased by 17 percent, to 4.6 million.

More than 1,000 deployed Marines and sailors are benefiting from tuition assistance, Popp told the Daily News. And an October article in The Chronicle of Higher Education described online courses as a “boon for soldiers who want to participate in college despite geographic displacement.” The story, about a professor and National Guardsman who continued teaching online classes in economics during a tour of duty in Iraq, reported that soldiers keep occupied during stretches down time by working, reading, exercising, playing video games and watching movies. Many soldiers and other members of the military also enroll in online college or graduate school courses during deployment, The Chronicle piece noted.

U.S. Marines Corporal Dakota Berg is among the latter, according to the Jacksonville Daily News. He joined the military after his 2006 high school graduation as a means of paying for his education and pursued an online degree in accounting, the News article stated. The military’s tuition assistance for the distance learning program relieved a lot of financial and mental stress, Berg told the Daily News–and, through online classes, he reportedly continued his education after being deployed from Parris Island, S.C., to Iraq.

Electronic learning basically means to learn things with the help of technology. Earlier learning was restricted to class room notes, paper bound books, journals, newspapers etc. But with the advent of computer and internet, learning gets a whole new dimension. They add more vigor and vivacity to the content. Learner sometimes gets bored and carried away with monotonous style of writing and explanation from author in the form of books. On the other hand the content of E- learning solutions includes animation, sound, video, message boards, live mentors (24*7) and permits multiple modes of interaction. These features tend to inculcate the learner with useful information.

Mainly there are two types of E-leaning, one is web based training and other is computer based training.

Computer Based Training: It is a type of learning that includes computer as a vital component for providing education. In this format, course material is burnt on CD or ROM which can be opened later on to impart knowledge based training. They mainly represent the content in a linear fashion much like reading an online book. Moreover you can create your own notes with the help of Word, Excel, PowerPoint presentations, PDF reader etc. It can include rich media and create visual effects without affecting the speed of the system. Another advantage of cbt is that it does not require any internet connection. It is browser independent.

Web Based Training: It is a type of learning that incorporates the use of internet as a sole provider of knowledge. The striking feature of web based training is that it has the potential to reach a larger and more geographically dispersed audience. Its main attribute lies in the fact that it can be accessed and retrieved anytime and anywhere at the expense of a click. It reduces time as well as effort from learner’s point of view. It has a wide range of applications in today’s life. It includes web conferencing, distance learning, videos on social networking sites etc. In this learner can even interact with the content provider which means that this method ensures two-way communication as compared to computer based training.

So, in this way E-Learning can provide solutions to ensure greater satisfaction from learner’s point of view.

Understanding the mind and human behavior is the hallmark of psychology. The discipline is essentially an invitation to those who are interested in studying learning processes, memory and cognition, emotional development and human behavior, to name a few. Most practicing psychologists are self employed with their own practices. Others may work in various settings spanning industry, business, marketing, research, government and non-profit groups.

There are several degree programs available in psychology available through both campus and online modes spanning Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees. However, in order to practice as a psychologist, the minimum expectation is a Master’s degree in Psychology. An Associate degree in Psychology is not enough to pursue a career as a psychologist though a Bachelor’s degree can serve as a stepping stone in this discipline. A graduate of a Bachelor program can begin a career as an assistant to a practicing licensed psychologist or assist with experimental research.

For those whose heart lies in practicing in the psychology profession, a Doctoral degree is strongly recommended though a Master’s degree may do. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that a Doctoral degree is essential in most cases for practicing as licensed psychologists. Both Master and Doctoral degrees require a dissertation and internship under a licensed psychologist. A Bachelor degree usually spans around 3 years whereas Associate’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees last approximately 2 years.

License is mandatory for practicing as psychologist and requires lot of hands-on work. Professional experience for a few years is necessary over and above the internship done [3 months to 1 year] as part of Master’s and Doctoral degree programs. Potential psychologists also need to qualify in the State licensing exams for psychologists.

Course content for these programs usually revolves around subjects such as research methods, clinical sciences, cognition, behavioral psychology, biology, statistics and developmental and social psychology. Specializations can be selected in areas of sports, child psychology, clinical psychology, school counselors and organizational psychology.

Career outlook for the psychology discipline is predicted to be positive. The Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts 9% job growth in this profession. The discipline has various types of psychologists such as developmental psychologists, child psychologists, clinical psychologists, organizational psychologists and counseling psychologists. Those who possess higher educational qualifications such as Doctoral degrees are expected to benefit the most in the thriving competition.

Earnings or salaries in this field can be lucrative for those with established practices or those who have made their mark in employment. They vary based on the practicing discipline. The highest 10% in this discipline drew more than $87,060 annually in 2002. The median annual earnings for school psychologists stood at $54,980 whereas it was $71,400 for organizational psychologists. Employment opportunities exist in fields such as management, human resources, marketing, research and corporate training among other avenues.

The growth in the psychology discipline is expected to be fueled by the growing demand for health care and clinical services, awareness and inclusion of psychology elements in school curriculum and expansion of medical services.

Online degree programs are continuing to grow in popularity with the help of open-minded employers who recognize their worth as credible sources of education and training. Wholly online universities that cater to the busy schedules of working adults with professional or family commitments are also becoming commonplace.

To stay competitive, more brick-and-mortar institutions are increasing their online course offerings or adding electronic aspects to classroom-based curricula.

As a result, distance education companies and schools alike are collaborating with one another to instill regulations to foster and preserve the opportunities offered by online learning.

Earlier this month, Excelsior College used a $58,500 grant it received from the Lumina Foundation for Education to convene a session of the President’s Forum, a collaboration of distance education proponents from across the country. The council, which includes college presidents, campus leaders, more than 150 colleges, organizations and policymakers met in Washington DC to discuss options for multi-state regulation of distance learning and online degree programs.

John F. Ebersole, president of Excelsior College, said the conference was called to address “an increase in concern for protecting the public interest from illegitimate programs” and foster “the growth of online learning” through accredited schools.

The Sloan Consortium, an organization that aims to integrate online education initiatives into the mainstream of higher education, has also announced it will hold a conference intended to improve communication between online course providers and promoters.

The Sloan-C International Conference on Learning, which was held between October 23 and 28 in Orlando, featured programs and speeches on the latest trends, research, technology and practices in partially or completely online coursework.

Craig Pines, CEO and president of Deltak – an online learning consulting company that will present at the conference – said the event provides “a wonderful opportunity to meet faculty and administrators” and show them how online education can “help their institution[s] achieve a high return with minimal financial investment.”

Researchers, educational administrators, instructors, faculty developers, librarians and students from the higher and secondary education, business, government, healthcare, and nonprofit sectors were all expected to attend.

Such efforts to improve the quality of online education and improve communication between schools, lawmakers, companies and students may ensure online degree programs offer working adults convenient and credible means to enhance their qualifications.

If you have been thinking about continuing your education, you should definitely check out Education Connection.
